MSNRelais Tenuta La Pieve - Chianti
The farm "La Pieve" is surronded
by a small valley that creates a wonderful
landscape. "La Pieve" is located
around Valdarno, Valdichiana and Valdambra
areas, just in a central position near
the towns of Florence, Siena and Arezzo.
Its place of origin dates back to 1250
and it was erected inside a built-up
area of defensive buildings called "The
Pieve Castle", as already mentioned
and drawn in the maps of the "Capitani
di parte", when Mr. Ristoro, the
main member of a family who will be
called Serristori, became the farmer
(livellario) of lands with vineyards
and olive-trees that the Dioces of Badia
Agnano had.
On 1st Juky 1554, after a strong defence
of the last 33 inhabitants, this castle
was sacked and fired by Pietro strozzi
troops and he was expelled from Florence
and allied with the Sienese and thje
king of France.
The castle was later rebuilt, but lost
its military function and a villa was
built inside it. This villa grew till
the present dimensions, assuming its
today's configuration.
Its typical Italian garden gives coolness,
thanks to the secular olm-oaks and the
big cypresses bordered by hedges of
laurel. From the eighteenth century
balcony, you can enjoy a wide view of
the valley and the local wines and olive-groves
hills, sweeping till the slopes of Pratomagno.
